Learn more about our most innovative product — Virtual Interlining

We’ve been working closely with the global leader in travel tech news, PhocusWire, to create a white paper and webinar to explain the benefits of Virtual Interlining

Virtual Interlining is where the underlying technology provides the means for passengers to travel with multiple carriers on a single itinerary. Kiwi.com stands at the forefront of this, as the global online travel tech company combining routes and patterns from over 500 airlines around the world.

Kiwi.com was founded in 2012 by Oliver Dlouhý and Jozef Képesi. Since then, we’ve developed a flight search algorithm which allows users to combine flights automatically from more than 500 airlines into a single itinerary. The benefit is that many of these carriers do not normally collaborate with each other. We call this Virtual Interlining.

Virtual Interlining combines flights from different carriers from point A to B via C. Therefore, it allows for significant cost savings for travellers. With the increasing number of air passengers and demand for self-connecting flights, Virtual Interlining fills a huge gap in the market.

Travelling customers can make use of our core benefit — the Kiwi.com Guarantee. With our Guarantee, the customer is protected for any missed connections that might arise due to schedule changes, flight cancellations, or airline delays. Our Customer Support is available 24/7 by phone and email. On top of that, we will cover the costs directly related to the missed connection, such as hotels, meals and rebooking onto another flight.

Our business is based on cooperation and partnerships. We are working together with airlines, global distribution systems, and more than 300 data sources to provide as much flight content as possible.

With the help of advanced algorithms and machine learning, we are able to create billions of unique combinations nobody else is offering. That is the secret to our innovative technology. It results in endless possibilities for customers travelling from one side of the world to the other, all in one booking.

Our worldwide distribution algorithms are the key component in our success. These algorithms enable customers to plan and book their preferred routes. With more than 100 distribution partners from APAC, Europe and LATAM — we are a truly global travel company.

PhocusWire and Kiwi.com recently produced a new white paper. In this report, we examine the role of Virtual Interlining and the opportunities for airlines and airports on a global scale.

To take a deep dive into Virtual Interlining, watch the webinar. Kevin May, editor-in-chief at PhocusWire, interviewed our CEO Oliver Dlouhý. Together they explored how airlines and airports can expand their network, procure additional traffic, increase market share, and get access to new revenue streams.
